Is there audio yet?

07:53
Yes, Paul is speaking

07:56
yes there is

19:04
wait, are you saying there are things online that are not true.. :)

I remember going to a meeting at ALA several years ago (5?) about undifferentiated name records… and they couldn’t agree on a solution, and I’m appalled that undifferentiated name authority records are still among us!

22:08
focus on deprecation of data rather than deletion - I think that's a really important takeaway

23:05
A NACO record with 4XX $wnne is kind of deprecation rather than deletion.

23:21
+Zoe. Sometimes there's not enough information to undifferentiate a commonly used name

23:35
Creation of new LCNAF undifferentiated authorities has ceased by policy and the existing ones are gradually being winnowed out.

24:16
Thanks Stephen, I feel better.

24:19
The undifferentiated-names-problem is more common in romanized names.

Hi, everyone - I'm a Core staff member. Our Code of Conduct can be found at http://www.ala.org/core/about/statement-of-conduct. Please contact me through private chat or at jlevine@ala.org if you experience any violations of the Code.

38:01
The chat will be part of the recording!

38:07
I think we did lose him

38:42
Individuals can also click the three dots in the chat window and choose Save Chat. It saves to your My Documents.

50:20
When someone has already made the changes in LCNAF, will changes (such as a split/merge) would they get reflected it VIAF without the need to report it to VIAF?

50:44
For Nathan: I've had requests to edit WorldCat Identities entries (by faculty members at my institution) since they can be quite visible in search engine results - is there a recommended pathway for making changes to WC Identities? Is it the bibchange@oclc.org email address?

52:19
For Nathan, how can VIAF justify the authenticity of the request for authors’ name change/merge?

52:48
I have corrected the NACO records, the OCLC bib records, and reported BFM to LC. But what if an error has been picked up by a variety of national libraries in the meantime? How can their records get fixed so the clusters in VIAF can be fixed? (I have already emailed VIAF about the error, no reply yet...)

52:52
Question to all the presenters: What are your thoughts about linking vocabularies (and appropriate vocab terms) directly, is this best practice? Or do you think it best, given changes and/or deprecations, NOT to link these vocabularies directly? Seems to me there are multiple possible positions on this question. curious. thank you

54:17
For anyone who joined late, this session is being recorded. A recording link will be sent to all registered attendees.

55:06
Given the frequent re-clustering, are VIAF IDs useful as identifiers in linked data? They don't seem to be a consistent identifier of an entity.

55:07
We will invite presenters to share their slides, also, so Ben and I can post them to ALA Connect.

58:05
For Jonathan, my colleagues and I are discussing sharing unique concepts related to comic strips with AAT. How open is Getty to new terms about comic strips which are a niche?

58:18
I was just attending a live webinar on cataloging and gender came up. What is the practice for marc 745 authority for gender, if, say the author wrote a book as a kid with their given gender, but then wrote a book as an adult with a different gender. How is this handled?

58:51
The national libraries, they need to correct their records. Who reports BFM to France, Germany, etc...?

59:29
OK, thanks Nathan.

01:01:47
Yes, I figured I needed to do it myself ;-)

01:04:06
Thank you!
