community specific considerations are so important, Natalie. it's all about knowing your audience. So cool to see how LCSUM got interpreted and brought people together!

Have you seen tiktok to have an effect on circ?
I feel like tiktok could be SUCH a great tool for libraries!!!!!!!

Yesssss. Library sharks for the win!
Good marketing... have to follow to see the kitty. ;-)
So true! I feel like patrons get tired of seeing me in all of the videos and photos over and over again!
Anyone have a list of libraries on TikTok or more suggested follows?
We have similar privacy issues at Inclusive Service at Brooklyn Public Library.
@joshua -- check out this list: http://ilovelibraries.org/article/librarytiktok-takes-you-behind-shelves
@joshua -- there's a tiktok of henrietta the cat at that link
Here are some of Ashley’s tips: https://wke.lt/w/s/FLZ-Zm
Canva is so great! It's a lifesaver and faster than Photoshop (which I still love but can bog me down in all the options.)
Canva is fun and easy to use....love it!
Canva will save your brand colors in settings too!
Canva is what we use primarily at our library and it's so user-friendly and just really visually satisfying!
planoly is great for Instagram specifically
I like Buffer because it allows sharing to Pinterest too. Can be glitchy though.
Good idea as Hootsuite free version has seriously limited the amount of scheduled posts
reposting/sharing is such a great way to connect!!!!
Here are some of Ashley’s tips: https://wke.lt/w/s/FLZ-Zm
We have used Cameo--has anyone else?
I need to know more about the library cat - does she live in the library????? Can I get my own library cat? ;)
Thanks @Rena! I love using social media to share ideas, market our programs, and cheerlead for others!
@Ashley - can you put the name of the scheduler that you use in the Q&A

Social media can provide a platform for collecting stories. Our library, Gail Borden, is number one in our city on TripAdvisor. Also recently when a question was asked on a What's Happening Facebook page with 65K fans, the library received so many compliments about why to move here.
ALA's Public Policy and Advocacy team has resources for building relationships with decision makers, and Trustees & other leaders can contribute to these: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/getting-started
We also have resources with best practices for using social media and streaming events: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/social-media
We have a lot of success with targeted emails to adults.
Has anyone else noticed a big drop in Facebook results since November 2019?
Speaking of traditional print and broadcast media... here are steps for reaching out to local outlets: http://www.ala.org/advocacy/media
Are you consistent with what days/times/nights you offer programs?
We have success reaching adults that are not library patrons through our community's NextDoor.
No one has mentioned an e-newsletter. We send targeted emails to our patrons to promote our adult programs
Buffer is great for scheduling social media posts
Hi attendees - there are a lot of great links being shared - be sure to select both "panelists and attendees" so everyone can see the resources
Agree with Estella, we have tried different times & days for programs for students vs. public patrons
Offering programs in partnership allows so much for listening and reaching them with what they want
Great comments all.
Great ideas, Natalie. We need to go where our patrons are, not where we are comfortable.
TweetDeck is good for scheduling on Twitter
We used to market adult programs by connecting them to our collections. in a face to face environment, we'd place fliers for small business programs next to that section of our collections.
Find those FB groups to join and share too. Like "Moms of 'insert town'"
Sorry shared with panelists. They have guidelines for websites they used to have guidelines for print marketing.
It's also great to tie in collaborators as co-hosts so they can share in the burden of promotions.

Community news notes at our local radio stations has helped us tremendously.
Some ideas on designing your marketing message (including more info on Canva and other tools): https://americanlibrariesmagazine.org/2018/09/04/cutting-clip-art-simple-design-improvements/
I'm having a lot of success publicizing adult programs with email newsletters. Also, send the info about programs to community partners, like the Y, educational groups, other nonprofits, who have members interested in your programs (e.g., send announcements about a gardening program to local gardening clubs, community gardens, etc.)
We've found it useful to publish events in the community calendar of the local newspaper.
Email blasts is great! PR contacts
Love the conversation about "conversion"
As someone who used to work at public media, I would suggest you reach out to your NPR/PBS station for partnerships and various kinds of underwriting
I think Canva has a scheduler too. Not sure if there is a charge
We have a town-wide account with Agorapulse. Super easy to use.
I think Canva pro is not too expensive, maybe $120 a year? and adds to the templates and other features you can use
Great points, Natalie!
I didn't even know you could schedule on twitter via twitter until a few weeks ago. I was completely surprised because I hadn't heard about that at all.
I believe Canva is now making scheduling from their website.
Make sure in times of crisis (or when there are big national/global issues in the news) you unschedule your scheduled posts so as not to appear out of sync
Canva is free for libraries.
For those interested in accessibility on social media, @HashtagHeyAlexa on Twitter shares good tips.
@Lieca - whaaa?! Canva is free for libraries?
next-door great too.
Ashley, what is your library's Instagram?
Canva is free for SOME libraries. The way our libraries are structured makes them government agencies and the pro version is no longer free.
Thank you everyone!
Great job everyone!!!
Yes Milagros! I recommend NextDoor as well
Canva is now offering scheduling directly from their website
@ucaeducation (College of Education at UCA)
Canva looks to schedule only under premium version
If anyone has questions about social media strategy, I love talking about this topic! email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for the vibrant conversation
