Would the parents of the intern also attend the master class?
Malia Beckstrand
56:41
Would the internship encapsulate the individual library's whole summer? For instance, our summer reading begins in May and wraps up in August.

Brian James
57:09
Where would funding for the travel come from? Is it wrapped into the grant?
Mary Hirsh
57:36
Yes, we pay for all travel and lodging. Nellie will go over these details a bit later
Alexa Robinson
58:35
Our schools begin in ealy to mid August. Does this fit with III parameters.
SHAVONNE THIGPEN
58:38
Thanks Analiza
Elizabeth Olesh
59:24
Students in our district are taking their final exams during the kick-off time.
Sam Lewis
01:02:33
How do you reconcile seeking a candidate based on diversity of sexuality without specifically asking them to disclose sexuality for obvious problematic reasons?
Kiersten Paine
01:02:47
Like others, our students' school district lets out for summer in late June (6/24), and they will likely be taking/studying for finals the weekend of the training. Did any mentors run into this issue?
Elizabeth Olesh
01:03:18
They would also need to miss at least one day of school for the wrap-up, it looks like.
Hallie Peacock
01:04:10
Is there age requirements for the high school student?
Sam Lewis
01:04:42
Also, is there a stipend to allow parents to attend the requisite training? If not, is it problematic to have a library mentor basically acting as a guardian for a minor or a very young adult in a different city overnight?
Mary Hirsh
01:05:12
We will be sure to cover the schedule variances during the Q&A, as well as questions about recruitment, privacy, and travel with mentors
Sharon Myrie
01:06:22
Hello from Queens, NY. How do you handle the potential isolation of having only one intern at each library

01:06:46
Also, Hello from Aniak, Alaska!

01:07:15
Hi Hallie- I'm in Homer (AK)!
Hallie Peacock
01:08:03
Hi to you to Claudia!
Joanna Goldfarb
01:09:07
How many libraries in a system can apply and potentially be selected for this grant?
Malia Beckstrand
01:11:43
Is there a minimum amount of hours the intern would need to meet during the course of the internship?
Rebecca Robinowitz
01:17:06
Is there a minimum and/or maximum age?
Tracy Blair
01:18:49
How much financial responsiblity is the libraries responsiblility. Travel etc...
Joanna Goldfarb
01:19:00
In regards to the application, does the question about number of schools in service area include private schools?
Star Khan
01:19:32
Can 2 people serve as mentors?
Eden Ovando
01:21:15
Hello, I'm looking to apply to III. My library is small and in the application it asks how many FTE? If this is referring to Full-Time employees, I as the branch manager am the only Full-Time employee. I have three staff members and they are all Part-Time. What should I enter for this question? and will my library still be considered? Thank you.
Mary Hirsh
01:22:41
Hi Eden, please put 1 in for FTE. Everyone is welcome to apply, regardless of size. Small libraries in the past have had great experiences and made a big impact on the cohort
Mary Hirsh
01:23:15
We are very deliberate about the overall cohort being diverese, so we do not have any limits on application eligiblity
Eden Ovando
01:23:26
Thank you Mary, I appreciate your prompt response.
Mary Sue Houser
01:23:27
If you have a team of mentors is there funding available for more than one mentor to attend the events?
Mari Ayala
01:24:21
Are there grade requirements of the applicants (or is that up to the individual library)? I'm wondering if the application leaves opportunity open to at-risk students?
Mary Hirsh
01:25:25
Hi Mari, we put no requirements on who you hire aside from the general age bracket. At risk students have participated successfully in the past
Amber Williams
01:25:44
Eden- FTE for an organization is if you add all the hours staff work in a week and divide that by 40 to give you FTE. For example, you work 40 and you have 3 part time people working 20 hours each for a total of 100 staff hours a week, or 2.5 FTE :)
Mary Hirsh
01:26:35
You do not need to route funds through a friends group. the library can accept it.
Mary Hirsh
01:27:03
Hi Mari, we put no requirements on who you hire aside from the general age bracket. At risk students have participated successfully in the past
Eden Ovando
01:27:10
Thank you Amber, I appreciate the way you broke it down.
Shannon Lane
01:28:03
Is the hourly wage considered a stipend or wages that will need all taxes taken out of by payroll?
Joyce Baker
01:28:20
I thought the application asks for the name of the intern. Am I mistaken?
Mary Hirsh
01:28:28
We only have funding for the intern-mentor pair. I will give a little more detail on this when Nellie is finished
Barbara McClayton
01:29:00
If you are a system, is a single branch applying?
Mari Ayala
01:30:49
What is the approx turnaround time from the point of application?
Lorraine Barry
01:30:53
Can you explain what MOU is? Thanks
Elizabeth Olesh
01:31:11
Memorandum of Understanding
Amber Williams
01:32:04
The kick-off and wrap up are 2 days but are listed as 3 calendar days- do the calendar dates include travel time if you are flying cross country?
Elizabeth Olesh
01:33:13
Do they all get paid the same hourly rate?
Crissy Fesperman
01:33:20
What is the average "salary" to the Intern? Is an hourly rate suggested or a lump sum?
Elizabeth Olesh
01:34:06
And how many hours per week of interning?
Sharon Anderson
01:35:33
How many hours per week do interns typically work?
Beth Anderson
01:36:47
Thank you for that change. lol
Jen Schureman Brenner
01:39:00
I had that problem in the beginning with my intern, but I just kept including him in everything that involved library staff
Malia Beckstrand
01:39:03
Would the stipend need to be taxed or no because it's a grant?
Elizabeth Olesh
01:39:26
Can they work less than 35 hours per week?
Jen Schureman Brenner
01:39:36
It did end up with the staff accepting him as an employee
Shannon Lane
01:40:03
I'm not seeing the MOU under the FAQ, is it the Guidlines? or a seperate document?
Joanna Goldfarb
01:40:50
In the past when I have had grant funded paid interns (different grant) we chose to pay them like a library employee and have taxes taken out. That way they'd have the option to join the state retirement system, and would also be covered by worker's comp. should it be necessary (you never know)
