Amen Migell!!

19:33
With the rise of Library of Things collections, have you been finding the need to weed print materials to make space for those collections, if you have them? Did the pandemic affect usage of those materials?

19:34
Question: Why do we still call ourselves Tech Services and can we update that?

19:45
Yes Migell and Patty

22:13
Thanks Kelvin

23:19
Thanks Kelvin

26:02
We have a Library of Things, but we really started building it up after the pandemic. It's very popular and we're getting great participation from our patrons, especially with the checkout of mobile hotspot devices.

26:07
We have a Library of Things and our Central Library is becoming a repository of the larger, bulkier things that can't be stored at branches.

26:35
We've had a library of things since before the pandemic. It does not get a lot of circ, but it's very popular when it gets a nod on social media. Patrons seem to like the idea of it's existence.

27:03
What is included in a Library of Things?

27:55
@Fred- cake pans, exercise equipment, garden tools, household tools, instruments

28:48
Thanks!

28:59
Thanks, Andrea.

30:59
We find cost-per-use just isn't sustainable as a sole method of circ. It does work to mix with other pricing models in OverDrive for high demand.

31:59
@ellen : we call ourselves Collection Services here at DC Public. Collection Services includes acquisitions, selection, and cataloging/processing. We also do collection analysis, reports, etc.

36:14
Establishing a different kind of relationship with the vendors to the stronger impact with our customer

37:30
In addition to digital books (OverDrive), and streaming services (hoopla, Kanopy), The Seattle Public Library worked with database vendors to control costs - also, the physical periodicals collection was stopped for a while and we now offer more digital magazines and newspapers than we did pre-pandemic

37:37
Thanks, Shana. I considered that, but rejected because it sounds like a collection agency to patrons. I've tried Cataloguing & Acquisitions, but we do not select in my department and it's lead to other confusion. Am currently leaning towards Materials Logistics.

38:29
We are MARS - Materials, Acquisitions, and Resources.

39:31
We don't use the term Technical Services at all. That unit is part of Strategic Analysis & Business Systems. It includes: Metadata, Collection Development, and Fulfillment.

39:41
Tech Svcs (Cataloging and Processing) and Collection Development/selectors are under "Intellectual Resources" in Palm Beach County.

40:37
What may be the long term view of vendors as we reopen doors? Will the cost structure go back to before pandemic prices?

40:49
More community facing - helping us approach our goals together

42:40
stronger expansion of rights to use children’s materials

46:12
SORA ttps://www.overdrive.com/apps/sora/

47:08
I'm thinking about some content we've created locally since the lockdown- especially in the form of a library produced podcast. I should create catalog records for the episodes … Does anyone have an example of a podcast record?

48:28
Oh, yes! We did something similar Patty. Grab and Go activity kits with an optional online component.

48:57
Co-curation is a very powerful way forward, I believe.

49:08
Grab and go works so well to expand our readers advisory to so many

54:34
We also want to improve our recruitment of staff that speak languages spoken in our communities,

55:28
Yes, Migell. recruitment and retention of multilingual staff and $$ support for bilingual skill set

01:02:38
collaboratively working with HR to shift thinking on the job descriptions, recruitment and retention is key - promotion of readers services is strong work do to right now to change the work and shift the culture

01:03:26
my patrons loved overdrive and despise libby lol
